Pre-occupation with Devices and Social Media a Major Contributing Factor To Childhood Obesity…

I have observed over the past 29 years as a practicing pediatrician, the evolution and the preoccupation of children with inactive entertainment including arcade games then video games and now cellphones, and of course TV/cable has continued to distract the attention of children providing too much non educational information and negative outside social influence and peer oriented pressure… children raised by daycares… overindulgent parents creating entitled children… increased depravity and declining moral consciousness of society… on and on and on…

We, pediatricians have been educating parents, screening children, advising against the undesired, advocating for the desired, discussing alternatives for… practicing preventive medicine and giving anticipatory guidance, that is what we do…

The AAP has advocated for children for decades and have established the standard of care for prevention of all of the aforementioned concerns. We can’t make parents, or the children comply or do right and we certainly can’t cure society, we can just do our part… advocate… inform… recommend… counsel… treat…
